EDUCATION:

George Mason University: Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with specialization in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL); January, 1992.

Colorado State University: B.A. in Art Education with K-12 certification. June, 1964.

EXPERIENCE:

ESL Middle School Teacher: J. W. Fulbright Teacher, Saldus, Latvia ‘96-97. Taught ESL for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) in Northern VA, November 1993 to present. Active volunteer participant in the following student activities: Human Relations, Mentor/ Mentee Program, Student Awards and Parent Partnership for Success, Navy Partnership and ESL Magazine Club.

Lead Teacher for Adult ESL: part time, for Fairfax County Public Schools Adult Education program. Supervised five teachers and four volunteers from 1992. Taught ESL in county adult education program from 1991-1995.

Art Teacher: Taught art history, appreciation, drawing and crafts at Loveland Junior High School, Loveland, Colorado; to seventh and eighth graders. 1964 - 1967.

Supervisory Clerk: Fairfax County Public Schools, Central Registration, Department of Student Services. Supervised both permanent and temporary support staff; coordinated office tasks and client management. Managed all clerical processing of international F1/J1 student registrations, petitions for residency status, and tuition paying students (foster care and others). Trained and supervised data entry operators. Performed trilingual receptionist duties. August 1988 - December 1993.

Office Manager/ Administrative Assistant: George Mason University, Office of International Student Services, Fairfax, Virginia. Supervised clerical support staff and performed head secretarial duties for the office director and two coordinators. Processed student requests and immigration documents. Administered the university's international student health insurance program. October 1987 - August 1988.

Peace Corps Volunteer: La Ensenada, Chile. Adult teacher of domestic arts, health/ parent education and practical living skills. Assisted in the field and clerical tasks of a national park management plan: The Vicente Peres Rosales Parque Nacional). 1967 - 1969.

NAPA: National Association of the Partners of the Americas. Past president of the DC/Brasilia Partners Chapter, and member of the Virginia/Santa Catarina Partners.

OF SPECIAL INTEREST:

Parent of four children, ages 27, 23, 22, and 21. World Traveler (18 months spent backpacking around the world, as well as resided in South America for over eight years: Brazil, Chile and Columbia). Fluent in Portuguese and Spanish, basic Latvian. Computer literate, MacIntosh basics. Competent equestrian, photographer and downhill skier.
